Black & White Film – Shooting, Developing & Printing 

Experience the beauty and craft of black-and-white analogue photography in two immersive workshops led by Oliver Altermatt, a Swiss photographer living in Australia.

Designed for beginners, for those wishing to revive their old film cameras, and for artists who want to integrate photography into their creative practice, these hands-on workshops offer a complete journey through the analogue process — from shooting and developing to scanning, editing, and fine-art printing. 

Workshop Locations & Dates 2026 

Hydra, Greece April 19 – 24, 2026, €2,500 per participant – max. 6

Car-free island with a rich artistic heritage and exceptional Mediterranean light. Accommodation in a traditional Greek villa right in Hydra’s port. 

Monti di Metri, Ticino, Switzerland March 26 – 29, 2026, €1,500 per participant – max. 6

Quiet mountain retreat in traditional Rusticos, surrounded by nature — ideal for focused analogue practice. 

What’s Included 

• Accommodation in shared twin rooms (single rooms may be available)

• Welcome dinner & meet-and-greet

• Daily black-and-white film for shooting

• All materials for developing, scanning, and printing

• Full lecturing & guided sessions

• Transport assistance on site (where needed)

• Adobe Lightroom introduction for editing scanned negatives

• Fine-art printing on Epson printers 

What You’ll Learn 

• Shooting with B&W film: exposure, tone, composition

• Developing and scanning film

• Editing in Adobe Lightroom for print

• Exhibition-quality printing on Epson

• A slower, more tactile way of making photographs 

What to bring 

● An analogue 35mm or medium format camera 

● Laptop with photo editing software installed (ideally Adobe Lightroom – trial versions available for download) 

● Extra black-and-white film rolls 

● Optional: SD card and external hard drive for backups 

● Seasonal and comfortable clothing and footwear suitable for shooting outdoors
