Traders of Hydra
Traders of Hydra is an ongoing photographic project documenting the island’s living mercantile heritage. Taken over two seasons, the images portray contemporary shopkeepers and business owners posed proudly before their storefronts, echoing historical portrait traditions while recognising the people who sustain Hydra’s everyday life. Each portrait brings together an individual and their place of work, inviting reflection on the relationships between livelihood, identity and community. Together, the photographs form an evolving record of local commerce, continuity and change.
The series is presented at the Melina Mercouri Hall on Hydra, with a vernissage on Wednesday, 14 October 2026. The exhibition remains open until 18 October.
