Hydra Documentary
For more than two years, Hydra has been the focus of an ongoing documentary photography practice exploring the island through its people, work, traditions, commerce, memory and built environment. Rather than documenting Hydra as a place alone, these interconnected projects seek to understand how identity is shaped through everyday life and the passage of time. Together, Faces of Hydra, Hands of Hydra, Traders of Hydra, Echoing Passage and What Remains form a visual archive of an island in transition—recording not only what Hydra is today, but also the stories, experiences and traces that continue to define its character. Through portraiture, social documentary and more conceptual approaches, the work reflects on belonging, continuity, change and the enduring relationship between people and place.
